The Host

I just couldn’t resist putting a little something about my latest great find. Oh boy, I think this is just as good as her Twightlight series. My dear friend Sara works as a book buyer for Overstock and she got me a pre-copy months ago while I was in the hospital with my back. Of course I was way to drugged up to read it then and has just gotten around to it (it’s not nearly as cool now because it’s out.) However, I did make pretty good use and let everyone borrow it. It’s been around the block and it’s really showing. I was lying in bed the other night and the back half fell off. Which really turned about convenient so that Tori didn’t have to wait for me to finish. She got the first half while I was reading the second. Enjoy and let me know what you think!!

Playing with Photoshop

I’ve been playing with Photoshop lots and lots lately, I’ve taught myself all sorts of new tricks. Here’s my latest experiment. Joshua & Shelly’s Thank You cards for all the millions of gifts they received!! The frame I purchased off of – Tons of great finds!!

Ty turns 6!!!

He’s such the little Hurricane gangster!! Tyler is my nephew, and he just turned 6. He’s so funny with all his “dude” “sweet” “yo” slang.
I just love him!!

Can you believe she’s already 2!!

My niece is actually 2?!? It just seems like yesterday she was teensie weensie. We took her across the street to the park to do her 2 year old pix. She’s been signing for along time and her new favorite sign is I Love You, “lovies” we call it. Not bad fine motor skills for a 2 year old. I sure love and and think she’d just about the cutest thing ever.

I made this Blog Header for Katie’s blog, it’s something I’d like to start doing more of. I’m really liking this design stuff!!

Mini Steve!!
Steve Nelson is the designer of my new logo. If you need design work he is the one to call!!

This is Steve & Julie Nelson’s little boy, he’s 2 years old and knows more than any 4 year old I’ve ever met. We hung out at Sugar House park, fed the very aggressive ducks, played with Boo Boo his bear (we got some very nice portraits of him as well:) and discovered an old tree by the stream. Eli called it Grandpa tree. What a delight to spend my morning with him. Thanks Eli!!!

I’ve been feverishly working on a fresh start for PhotoByEmilie. I’ve got a new logo (thanks Steve Nelson!!!), new marketing materials, a new Christmas card special and now a New Blog!!! I’m up at night I’m so excited. Next will be my new website – heck throw in the Volvo while I’m dreaming :)

Post for Tauni

Want to take your photos to the next level?  Here are five must have pieces of photography equipment…

For only $25 you shouldn’t pass on this piece of equipment.  Check out this tutorial to learn how to use it HERE.  You can purchase it HERE.

Nothing takes photos as well as a clean lens.  This Lens Cleaner consists of a soft brush and a special carbon non-liquid cleaning element.  My favorite lens cleaner is only $8.  You can purchase it HERE.

The 50mm 1.8f lens is by far the best bang for your buck when it comes to lenses.  The 1.8f gives you bright, light & sharp images, while remaining one of the most affordable lens on the market.  At between $100-$200 this should be one of your first purchases.  Check with your local retailer or call B&H Photo to learn which variety of this lens is right for your camera.

Tamron brand camera lens are after market lens.  They are not as sharp or quick to focus as the market brands.  However, they are significantly less money.  My 2 recommendations are the 28-75mm 2.8f, which can be purchased by CLICKING HERE.  The 2nd lens is the 70-2oomm 2.8f lens that can purchased by CLICKING HERE.

You absolutely need this if you do a lot of indoor photography and self portraits.  The Monopod allows you the stability of a tripod but the creative flexibility of hand held.  This monopod also has a table top feature.  This last piece of equipment is only $30.  CLICK HERE top purchase.
